| Accomplishments: |
I was part of a new development effort to provide an international
Electronic Parts Catalog application for Standalone and TCP/IP online environments for the
Daimler-Chrysler Automotive Group (DCAG) project. The product was written using Java/Swing
Rev.1.4.1 in a J2EE multi-tiered environment connected to a Transbase database.
I was also tasked to modify and correct existing code per change requests from the end-user
(DCAG) and the internal SQA group.
I developed a new GUI Internationalization feature for the product supporting eight
languages.
The product ran under the JRun4 application server. The JCreator IDE was used for
development and debugging on a Microsoft 2000 workstation. StarTeam was the source control
and problem tracking system used on this project. The development team consisted of about
10 software engineers.
The product was developed under intense pressure to meet a very aggressive schedule to
satisfy the demands of DCAG. Management was very pleased that we met the first alpha
release on schedule with all requested features included and all required change requests
included.
This concluded my third contract with ProQuest Automotive.

|
| Accomplishments: |
Developed an internet/intranet website used to advertise the squadron and their boating
classes, display a photo album scrapbook of squadron activities, a brokerage
page containing boats for sale by members and friends, and several other pages.
The intranet contains member-only information and is supported by CGI programs
written in C++/Perl, JSP and Java Beans. Two utility JAVA applets and a
JavaScript utility were written as part of the presentation layer. One applet
converted statute to/from nautical units of measure. A second applet was a
graphics intensive applet to exercise knowledge of maritime signal flags. The
JavaScript utility is used to reduce celestial sights using the Law of Cosines
method. The CGI programs were written to display member information taken from
a roster flat-file, email list flat-file and a member interests flat-file.
Another CGI program uses a form to search the roster database for members who
fit user selected criteria such as courses taken, member interests, location of
residence, etc. The databases were accessed using Java Beans. The squadron
newsletter is available on-line in PDF format for downloading by members and
another page displays items available from the squadron’s ship store. This
website has won the United States Power Squadron website award for excellence
for several years. This award was given to only 64 of over 250 squadron
websites. I continue developing and maintaining this website using Websphere’s
WSAD IDE. The site address is http://www.akronpowersquadron.com.
